What is the difference between Fortinet Hosted VDOM Lite and Enterprise at FirstNet?

Hosted Firewall & Network Security · Answered by FirstNet Technology Services

Short answer

Hosted VDOM Lite is for simpler needs: basic firewalling, NAT, routing and VPN. Hosted VDOM Enterprise adds advanced security and networking, including unified threat management features such as intrusion prevention, antivirus, web filtering and application control, plus SSL inspection and SD-WAN where required.

In detail

Comparing the two:

  • Both include firewalling, NAT, routing and site-to-site VPN; remote-access VPN depends on the agreed scope
  • IPS, antivirus, web filtering and application control: limited in Lite, available in Enterprise where required
  • SSL inspection: not the default fit for Lite, available in Enterprise where required and sized correctly
  • SD-WAN: Enterprise only
  • Customer-specific design flexibility: low for Lite, medium for Enterprise
  • Both run on FirstNet's shared FortiGate platform as a managed service, with 8x5 or 24x7 support

Lite suits small or simple environments that want a hosted managed firewall. Enterprise suits organisations that need hosted threat protection and more advanced networking.

If you need a dedicated firewall with more customer-specific design flexibility, FirstNet's On Prem FWaaS track places a FortiGate at your site instead.
