The FirstNet CSP wrap
What's included as standard
The licences are the same wherever you buy them. The difference is the service around them.
- One consolidated monthly invoice in ZAR across every Microsoft SKU
- FirstNet absorbs the USD-to-ZAR translation mechanics
- Licence right-sizing review at onboarding and every 90 days
- Azure consumption summary monthly and optimisation review quarterly
- Customer success manager and quarterly business reviews
- FirstNet service desk triages issues and escalates into Microsoft
Quick answers
Why buy through FirstNet instead of directly from Microsoft?
Unit pricing is the same. With FirstNet you get one ZAR invoice across all Microsoft licences, right-sizing every 90 days, Azure consumption analytics, local technical advisory and a single point of escalation into Microsoft.
We're on a Microsoft Enterprise Agreement. Can we switch?
Enterprise Agreements sit outside CSP, and FirstNet does not transact them. We can advise you now and help you move to CSP at your EA renewal.
What do we need before rolling out Copilot?
Copilot is a per-user add-on that requires Microsoft 365 E3, E5, Business Standard or Business Premium. A clean rollout also needs Purview labelling and tidy SharePoint permissions. We recommend a pilot with a defined group, typically 50–100 users over 6–8 weeks, before scaling.
Can we move to FirstNet from another CSP?
Yes. We support partner-of-record transitions from other CSPs and from direct Microsoft purchasing. A tenant readiness review is part of the transition, so any inherited security gaps are documented and prioritised.

Under Microsoft's New Commerce Experience you can mix terms across your licences, for example annual for permanent staff and monthly for contractors.
Monthly
For pilots, contractors and seasonal staff. Cancellation is possible within the initial 7-day window.
Annual
The default for production workloads, balancing commitment and flexibility.
Three-year
Locks the unit price for stable estates with a long-term Microsoft strategy.
Azure pay-as-you-go
Billed on actual consumption, with Reservations or Savings Plans once usage is steady.
Onboarding
How we get you started
Discovery
We capture your current agreements, licence counts, renewal dates and next workload.
Tenant readiness review
We check identity, MFA, conditional access, Defender, Purview and SharePoint permissions.
CSP transition
Existing tenants move to FirstNet as partner of record, or we set up new tenants.
Group-based licensing
Licences are assigned by persona group, which prevents drift and simplifies audits.
Optional services
Beyond licensing
- Design and migration for M365, Azure, Defender, Entra, AVD and Dynamics
- Managed M365 and Azure: administration, change, patching and monitoring
- FinOps: tagging, budgets and Reservations or Savings Plans
- Adoption and change management for M365 and Copilot rollouts
- Power Platform Centre of Excellence advisory
- Pro Direct or Premier support routing where contracted
Can we leave later?
Yes. You keep ownership of your tenant data under Microsoft's terms, and partner-of-record transfer to another CSP or to direct purchasing is supported. Cancellation rules follow the NCE term you selected.
Can CSP licences be used to host services for our own customers?
CSP licensing is designed for your organisation's own use. If you plan to host services for third parties, talk to us first so we can review licensing eligibility.
Will we be billed in rand for Microsoft licences through FirstNet?
Yes. Through FirstNet's Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) agreement you receive a single consolidated monthly invoice in rand (ZAR) for every Microsoft licence in scope, including Microsoft 365, Azure, Dynamics 365 and security add-ons. FirstNet handles the conversion from US dollars, so your finance team sees one rand-denominated invoice and one renewal cadence instead of several Microsoft contracts, often billed in US dollars.
What is Microsoft NCE, and which licence term should we choose?
NCE (New Commerce Experience) is Microsoft's platform for buying through a CSP, offering monthly, annual and three-year terms. Monthly terms suit pilots, contractors and seasonal staff, can only be cancelled within the first seven days, and cost more per seat. Annual terms are the usual choice for steady production use. Three-year terms fix the unit price for stable estates. You can mix terms, for example annual for staff and monthly for contractors.
What is a Microsoft licence right-sizing review?
A right-sizing review checks the Microsoft licences you pay for against what your users actually need and use, so you avoid paying for unused or oversized licences or running short. FirstNet runs one at onboarding and every 90 days after that, and plans renewals 90 days ahead so terms are reviewed against real usage. Licences are assigned to persona-based groups rather than user by user, which keeps the licence mix accurate and makes audits simpler.
Is Azure cheaper if we buy directly from Microsoft?
No. The unit price for Azure is the same whether you buy directly or through a CSP. What changes your Azure bill is how well consumption is managed: tagging, budgets, right-sizing, and applying Reservations or Savings Plans once your usage pattern is steady, usually 60 to 90 days in. Through FirstNet you get a monthly consumption summary and a quarterly optimisation review. Savings depend on your workloads, so no fixed percentage can be promised.
Does buying Microsoft licences make us POPIA compliant?
No, not on its own. Microsoft licences such as Entra ID, Defender and Purview give you strong identity, security and data-governance controls, but compliance depends on how your tenant is configured and operated. Under POPIA, and any sector-specific rules, your organisation remains the responsible party. FirstNet can help design and deploy these controls. For data residency, Microsoft publishes per-service commitments in the Microsoft Trust Center, and residency is documented during your tenant readiness review.
Can we pilot Microsoft Copilot before rolling it out to everyone?
Yes, and starting with a pilot is the recommended approach. A Copilot pilot usually involves a defined group of about 50 to 100 users over six to eight weeks, with measurable adoption and value indicators. It starts by confirming that users have a qualifying licence, and by cleaning up Purview labels and SharePoint permissions so Copilot only surfaces what people are allowed to see. You then decide whether to scale based on the results.
Which Microsoft products can we license through FirstNet?
FirstNet is a Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider and Microsoft Solutions Partner and can license Microsoft 365 (Business and Enterprise plans), Azure, Dynamics 365, Power Platform, Defender, Purview and Entra security add-ons, Copilot for Microsoft 365, Windows 365, and Windows and Office volume licensing, including Office LTSC and server CALs. They are all covered by one CSP agreement. Design, migration and managed services can be added where needed. Enterprise Agreements are not transacted, but FirstNet can advise on moving from one at renewal.
