Can FirstNet migrate us from Google Workspace or on-premises Exchange to Microsoft 365?

Cloud Migration & Modernization · Answered by FirstNet Technology Services

Short answer

Yes. FirstNet moves businesses from Google Workspace, on-premises Exchange or older Microsoft 365 tenants onto a current set of Microsoft 365 licences. The work covers identity, moving mail and data, a security baseline, and user adoption.

In detail

The typical steps:

  • Tenant readiness review: FirstNet checks your licence mix, identity, MFA, conditional access, Defender, Purview and SharePoint permissions. You sign off the list of fixes.
  • Identity design: including hybrid identity if you keep Active Directory on your own servers.
  • Pilot group: tests identity, security settings and how it all works for users, typically over 3 to 6 weeks.
  • Migration waves: mail and data move in planned groups.
  • Final cutover and adoption support: users switch over, with help to use the new tools.

FirstNet is a Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider (CSP). So it can supply your Microsoft 365 licences on one agreement, billed in rand. It reviews licence sizing every 90 days and assigns licences by persona group.

Once you are on Microsoft 365, plan for a separate backup too. Microsoft keeps the service running, but getting back deleted or encrypted data is your job. FirstNet's Microsoft 365 backup, powered by Druva, covers Exchange Online, OneDrive, SharePoint Online and Teams.
