Short answer
Foundation is the lower-cost vault in FirstNet BaaS (Backup as a Service), with data kept redundant in one region. Advanced typically spreads data across availability zones, for business-critical data that needs more resilience.
In detail
Both are editions of the Veeam Data Cloud Vault that holds your FirstNet offsite backups. How they compare:
- Resilience: Foundation uses locally redundant storage in one region. Advanced typically uses zone-redundant storage across several availability zones, where the region supports it.
- Data retrieval: Advanced includes more retrieval, which suits frequent restores and tests.
- Region choice: Advanced typically lets you choose from more regions than Foundation.
- Security: both are always encrypted, and both support immutability (backups that cannot be changed).
Each edition comes with a Core or Non-Core region list. Core covers the major cloud regions. Non-Core adds more, such as South Africa, for residency or latency needs, where available.
As a rule of thumb, start with Foundation in a Core region if cost matters most and your workloads can recover from one region. Choose Advanced for business-critical data. Pick a Non-Core region if data must stay in a certain country. FirstNet confirms which regions you can use during discovery and quoting.
