Can we use FirstNet Managed DR with our own Veeam licences?

Backup & Disaster Recovery as a Service · Answered by FirstNet Technology Services

Short answer

No. FirstNet Managed DR can only be added when Veeam Backup & Replication is licensed and provided by FirstNet under the Veeam Cloud & Service Provider (VCSP) programme. If you use Veeam licences bought elsewhere, you can still take Platform-Only DRaaS and run replication and failover yourself.

In detail

Your options with existing Veeam licences:

  • Platform-Only DRaaS: FirstNet provides reserved DR capacity, replication tenancy and platform support, and you operate it from your own Veeam console
  • Backup as a Service Track 2: keep your licences and send offsite backup copies to a FirstNet repository, with an optional managed service
  • Move to FirstNet VCSP licensing: Managed DR becomes available once an approved migration to FirstNet-provided licensing is confirmed

Under the VCSP model, FirstNet supplies Veeam licensing per protected workload as a monthly service rather than a perpetual purchase, and handles licensing administration and support entitlements. Where Veeam Data Platform Premium is in scope, it includes Veeam ONE for monitoring and reporting, which Managed DR uses to track replica health.

FirstNet does not sell standalone Veeam licences, so licensing always comes as part of a FirstNet backup or DR service.
