Short answer
Cloudflare started as a CDN, but today it covers application security, Zero Trust access, network services and edge compute on one platform, and often replaces three or four separate security and delivery contracts. FirstNet designs, deploys and tunes it for South African organisations.
In detail
The four product families:
- Application services: web application firewall (WAF), DDoS protection, Bot Management, API Shield, CDN and Argo Smart Routing
- Zero Trust: Cloudflare Access for zero trust network access, Cloudflare Gateway for secure web access, Browser Isolation, CASB and DLP
- Network services: Magic Transit for DDoS protection of whole IP ranges, Magic WAN and Magic Firewall
- Developer platform: Workers, R2 storage and D1 for running code at the edge
Every Cloudflare point of presence runs every service, including in Johannesburg and Cape Town. The same edge filters DDoS, enforces WAF policy, serves cached content and brokers Zero Trust access, so there are no appliances to deploy and no separate scrubbing-centre redirect.
FirstNet adds the managed wrap: design, policy hardening, ongoing tuning, SIEM integration and partner-tier escalation into Cloudflare.
