Can FirstNet Private Cloud connect privately to AWS, Azure or Google Cloud?

Private Cloud Hosting & Management · Answered by FirstNet Technology Services

Short answer

Yes. FirstNet Private Cloud supports private, secure peering with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform. This suits hybrid designs and gradual migrations.

In detail

Your connection options:

  • Cloud peering: private links to AWS, Azure and Google Cloud that do not rely on the public internet.
  • Site-to-site VPN: secure tunnels from your offices or data centres.
  • Internet access: for workloads that face the internet, protected by the virtual firewall.
  • Private and dedicated links: over FirstNet's carrier-neutral fibre network.

A typical use is to keep regulated systems in Private Cloud and use public cloud for burst or development workloads. Another is to move workloads step by step from one platform to another.

The sizing workshop works out how you connect and how you separate your systems. For example, some systems may face the internet while others stay private. Production and development may also need to be kept apart. Your connectivity scope also affects how long provisioning takes.

If your hybrid design includes Microsoft, FirstNet can also supply Azure through its Microsoft CSP agreement. It can design your Azure landing zone too. For hardware you keep, FirstNet colocation at Teraco sites offers cross-connects to cloud on-ramps such as Azure ExpressRoute and AWS Direct Connect.
