Are we locked in if we use FirstNet Private Cloud?

Private Cloud Hosting & Management · Answered by FirstNet Technology Services

Short answer

No. With FirstNet Private Cloud you own your data, and an exit with secure deprovisioning and data handover is available under your contract.

In detail

Why lock-in risk is low:

  • Data ownership: your data remains yours, and handover on exit is part of the contract scope
  • Standard hypervisors: workloads run on VMware vSphere or Microsoft Hyper-V, widely used platforms rather than proprietary ones
  • Hybrid connectivity: private peering to AWS, Azure and Google Cloud keeps other platforms within reach
  • Building blocks: you consume vCPU, RAM and storage by tier, so you can scale down as well as up

Term length, notice periods, renewal mechanics and exit obligations are defined in your contracted terms and conditions, so review them when you sign. FirstNet designs its cloud architecture to deliver performance, compliance and resilience without locking customers into a single vendor or platform.

If future flexibility matters to you, raise it during solution design so the exit and data handover approach is clear from the start. The same principle applies to Microsoft licences bought through FirstNet: you keep ownership of your tenant data and can transfer partner of record to another CSP or to Microsoft directly.
