Short answer
FirstNet Private Cloud delivers dedicated resources with cloud-like automation, elasticity and managed operations, without the hardware burden. Instead of buying, racking and refreshing servers, you consume virtual servers, memory, tiered storage and networking hosted in FirstNet data centres in South Africa.
In detail
The main differences from running your own servers:
- Hardware: FirstNet runs the Dell PowerEdge clusters, Infinidat storage and data centre, so you never buy or refresh equipment
- Cost model: capital expenditure cycles are replaced by predictable operating costs, consumed per vCPU, GB of RAM and GB of storage by tier
- Scaling: RAM is allocated in 1 GB increments and resources can be adjusted as demand changes
- Resilience: high availability restarts VMs on another host if hardware fails, and live migration moves running VMs without downtime
- Security and recovery: a virtual firewall and Veeam backups to immutable storage form the recommended baseline
- Management: you provision, control and monitor VMs and usage in the Hybr portal
You still choose your hypervisor, VMware vSphere or Microsoft Hyper-V, so existing skills carry over. By default FirstNet runs the platform and you manage the operating systems and applications; optional Server Management adds OS monitoring and patching in business hours or 24x7.
