How quickly can FirstNet connect a business site with LEO satellite?

LEO Satellite Connectivity · Answered by FirstNet Technology Services

Short answer

LEO can generally be deployed faster than a new fibre build, which makes it well suited to remote, temporary and newly established sites. Actual deployment times depend on the site requirements, equipment availability and installation conditions.

In detail

What sets the timeline:

  • Quote: FirstNet checks coverage and licensing for the location and usually comes back with a quote within one business day.
  • Site readiness: a clear view of the sky, a secure mounting position, power, access and accurate GPS coordinates.
  • Install slot: once readiness is confirmed, an installation is booked.
  • Installation: the antenna is installed, the service activated and monitoring enabled.
  • Handover: support contacts, ticket channels and escalation path are confirmed.

LEO needs no tower build and no line-of-sight relay, so it can activate faster than microwave in remote regions, difficult terrain and long-distance or temporary deployments. It also avoids the fibre construction, wayleaves and civil works that drive fibre lead times.

For events, FirstNet installs LEO the day before and removes it the day after, with no contractual commitment. For new sites, LEO can connect the location while permanent infrastructure is being deployed.
