What happens during a FirstNet LEO satellite installation?

LEO Satellite Connectivity · Answered by FirstNet Technology Services

Short answer

FirstNet confirms site readiness, books an install slot, then installs the antenna, activates the service and enables monitoring. Finally, FirstNet confirms your support contacts, ticket channels and escalation path.

In detail

Site readiness is validated before installation so there are no surprises on the day. Your site needs:

  • A clear view of the sky, usually a roof or open area
  • A secure mounting position on the building or site
  • Power where the equipment will be installed
  • Site access for installation, including permits or safety inductions
  • Accurate GPS coordinates that plot to the installation roof

Obstructions are checked at this stage, because dense tree canopy or structures in the antenna's field of view can affect performance.

Once installed, the service is managed by FirstNet, with proactive monitoring, service management and coordinated support across technologies and providers. If LEO is part of a wider design, FirstNet integrates it with your fibre, LTE/5G, SD-WAN and firewalls.

To start, FirstNet checks coverage and licensing for your location and usually comes back with a quote within one business day.
