What is a modern network, and what does FirstNet include?

Modern Network · Answered by FirstNet Technology Services

Short answer

A modern network has three layers: FirstNet broadband links, Peplink at each site to keep it online, and Cloudflare to secure users and apps.

In detail: What is a modern network?

What each layer does:

  • The links: FirstNet business fibre, dedicated internet access, LTE/5G, fixed wireless and LEO satellite, usually two diverse links per site
  • The edge: a Peplink router combines those links into one connection, with sub-second failover so live calls and remote desktop sessions stay up
  • The cloud: Cloudflare Zero Trust secures every user and app, wherever they work: zero trust access instead of a VPN, web filtering, and data loss prevention

Together they replace MPLS lines, branch VPNs and much of the per-site firewall estate, with security that follows people rather than buildings. FirstNet supplies, installs and manages all three layers, with one contract and one support desk.

There are four ways to buy it: Complete, Overlay, Essentials and Advanced, depending on whether you need new links, already have them, are on a tight budget, or are regulated.
