Short answer
A typical port takes 5 to 15 business days from the losing carrier. FirstNet captures the porting scope and a signed Letter of Authority (LoA) up front, and stages the cutover with a rollback plan so calls keep flowing.
In detail
What affects the timeline:
- How quickly your current (losing) carrier responds.
- The size of the range: large blocks, multi-site or multi-carrier consolidations usually take 3 to 6 weeks.
- Whether numbers are tied to other services, such as copper, ADSL or bundled lines.
- Whether the account holder details on the LoA exactly match your current carrier account.
In Teams, ported numbers are assigned and managed in the Teams Admin Center with Operator Connect, or through voice routing with Direct Routing. Porting starts in the Provision phase, and the number cutover happens in the Production phase after pilot users have been tested on Teams.
FirstNet does not promise dates that depend on another operator's responsiveness, but it flags porting risks early, agrees a low-traffic cutover window and monitors calls for the first 24 hours after cutover.
