Short answer
Yes. FirstNet uses multiple access technologies and partners to reach challenging locations, and where last-mile options are limited it designs blended connectivity to meet performance and availability targets.
In detail
Because FirstNet is carrier- and medium-agnostic, a remote site is not limited to whatever one network covers. The options it works through are:
- Licensed microwave: point-to-point or point-to-multipoint radio from a high site to your premises, subject to a line-of-sight survey.
- Fixed wireless (FWA / Fixed 5G): where coverage and capacity at your address allow.
- LTE/5G: carrier-agnostic mobile broadband wherever there is signal, on the network with the best signal at that site.
- LEO satellite: Eutelsat OneWeb low-Earth-orbit service for sites where no terrestrial option fits, with typical latency of around 50 to 80 ms.
These can be combined, for example LEO as the primary with LTE/5G alongside it, with SD-WAN steering traffic between them. FirstNet has connected remote mining sites with blended access to meet uptime targets. Every wireless option is validated for your exact address before installation, because trees, buildings, terrain and rooftop access all affect what can be delivered.
