Does FirstNet supply the internet links that Peplink bonds?

Bonded Connectivity with Peplink · Answered by FirstNet Technology Services

Short answer

Yes. Peplink bonds the circuits but does not provide them: FirstNet supplies the fibre, Dedicated Internet Access, LTE/5G and LEO satellite links under its Connectivity services, and Peplink bonds them into one resilient connection. You can also bond links you already have.

In detail

Either way, circuits, bonding hardware and day-to-day management sit with one accountable provider. How FirstNet puts the links together:

  • Per-site survey: signal mapping, fibre availability, power and UPS sizing.
  • Link selection: carrier and technology diversity at each site, based on mobile coverage, fibre availability and satellite line of sight.
  • Hardware sizing: by throughput, ports, cellular modems and environment.
  • Management: InControl 2 run by FirstNet, with monitoring and ticketing through the FirstNet NOC.

Because FirstNet is carrier-agnostic across every major fibre and mobile network operator in South Africa, the links bonded at a site can come from different networks, which is what gives bonding its resilience. Licensed microwave is also available from FirstNet as a link type.

When FirstNet supplies both the links and the bonding, a fault is handled by one team, whether the cause is a fibre cut, a mobile network issue or the router itself.
