Can we record Zoom Phone calls for FSCA or POPIA compliance with FirstNet?

Zoom Phone & Zoom Contact Centre · Answered by FirstNet Technology Services

Short answer

Yes, through FirstNet Compliance Recording, which integrates with Zoom using CallCabinet, powered by Smarsh. Recorded Zoom Phone users need the Zoom Phone Power Pack licence. The platform supports your compliance programme, but compliance itself depends on your own policies.

In detail

What compliance recording adds for Zoom:

  • Capture of Zoom Phone, Zoom Meetings and Zoom Contact Center into one tamper-proof archive.
  • AES-256 rotating encryption, MFA and granular, role-based permissions.
  • Retention policies, legal hold, defensible deletion and audit logs.
  • Optional QA workflows, transcription, sentiment and automated PCI, PII and PHI redaction.

During design, FirstNet scopes the recorded user list, retention period, search and supervisor access, and audit requirements. POPIA also expects a consent prompt on recorded lines, which is configured and tested during activation.

Native Zoom recording is useful day to day, but it lacks the tamper-proof storage, granular retention, legal hold and audit logs that audits and disputes rely on. Only users whose calls must be recorded need the Power Pack, not everyone. If your business also uses Teams or a PBX, the same archive and policy can cover those calls too.
