What is the Zoom Provider Exchange, and what is FirstNet's role in it?

Zoom Phone & Zoom Contact Centre · Answered by FirstNet Technology Services

Short answer

The Zoom Provider Exchange is Zoom's curated marketplace of certified phone-network partners. FirstNet is listed as a South African Cloud Peering partner, also called bring your own carrier (BYOC), so your Zoom admin can select FirstNet and connect South African numbers and call termination to your Zoom tenant without a separate carrier portal.

In detail

How enablement works:

  • Your Zoom admin, or FirstNet on your behalf, selects the FirstNet listing in the Provider Exchange.
  • FirstNet accepts the request and scopes network readiness, licences, numbers and porting.
  • FirstNet enables Cloud Peering on your tenant, including SIP termination, number bindings and dial plans.
  • Numbers are newly issued by FirstNet or ported in, with a Letter of Authority and rollback plan.
  • Pilot users go live with hyper-care, followed by full rollout.

Calls then reach local operators through FirstNet's ICASA-licensed interconnects. Outbound calls from Zoom route to FirstNet and on to the destination network, while inbound calls to FirstNet numbers are presented to the user, queue or auto attendant set up in Zoom.

The same model applies to Zoom Contact Centre, where FirstNet provisions contact-centre service numbers and assigns them to queues, so both products share one voice provider.
