Does FirstNet guarantee POPIA or FSCA compliance for business voice and call recording?

Voice · Answered by FirstNet Technology Services

Short answer

No. No provider can guarantee regulatory compliance on your behalf. FirstNet's recording and reporting services support your compliance programme for POPIA, FSCA and similar rules, but final compliance depends on your own policies, configuration and obligations.

In detail

What FirstNet provides to support compliance:

  • FirstNet Compliance Recording captures Teams, Zoom, PBX and contact-centre calls into one tamper-proof archive with retention policies, legal hold and audit logs.
  • The recording platform supports compliance programmes for POPIA, FAIS, FICA, PCI-DSS, GDPR and other frameworks.
  • POPIA consent prompts on recorded lines are configured and tested as part of recording activation, with a sample of calls checked in the first week.
  • Apex BI Clarity keeps an immutable call-activity record that supports POPIA, FSCA, healthcare and education audits.

What stays with you: deciding which calls to record, how long to keep them, who may access them and how consent is handled. Recording without a consent prompt, for example, can breach POPIA, and that liability sits with the business doing the recording. FirstNet's SLAs cover the components FirstNet manages, and a FirstNet specialist can help map your obligations to the right recording and reporting set-up.
