What must be set up in Microsoft 365 before FirstNet Teams calling goes live?

Microsoft Teams Calling · Answered by FirstNet Technology Services

Short answer

Your tenant must be in Teams-Only mode, users need Teams Phone Standard or E5 licences, and someone with Global Admin access must be available for the integration window. FirstNet reviews tenant readiness first and gives you a checklist of anything to fix.

In detail

The readiness checklist typically covers:

  • Teams-Only mode in the tenant.
  • Licensing inventory: Teams Phone Standard or E5 per user, plus Audio Conferencing where relevant.
  • Tenant ownership and federation settings.
  • Existing voice routing, dial plans and any Calling Plan numbers.
  • For Direct Routing: a public FQDN, a certificate plan, and firewall and NAT changes for signalling and media.
  • Porting: a signed Letter of Authority and the list of numbers to move.

During provisioning, FirstNet either adds itself as your operator in the Teams Admin Center for Operator Connect, or configures the tenant side for Direct Routing, including PSTN gateway registration, voice routing policies, voice routes, PSTN usages and dial plans.

Auto attendants, call queues and dial plans are then built before pilot users cut over and are tested. If you are not licensed yet, FirstNet can supply Teams Phone licences as a Microsoft CSP.
