Can FirstNet combine colocation, private cloud and backup in one solution?

Cloud · Answered by FirstNet Technology Services

Short answer

Yes. FirstNet designs hybrid solutions in which you keep your own hardware in a FirstNet colocation rack, run other workloads in FirstNet Private Cloud, and protect both with Backup as a Service or Disaster Recovery as a Service, with FirstNet as the single accountable provider.

In detail

Common combinations include:

  • Colocation for hardware you want to keep, with Private Cloud for general virtual servers
  • Private Cloud with Veeam backups to immutable storage as the baseline, plus geographic DR to a second FirstNet data centre
  • Production in one city and colocation or DR in another, so recovery is geographically separate
  • Private Cloud peered privately to AWS, Azure or Google Cloud, or colocation cross-connected to cloud on-ramps such as Azure ExpressRoute
  • Microsoft 365 and endpoint backup alongside server backup, covering data outside your servers

Colocated equipment in the Durban data centre can interconnect directly with FirstNet's private cloud and network, and support runs through the 24x7 Rapid Response service desk. You can start with one building block and add others as your needs grow, and FirstNet scopes the combined design, connectivity and recovery objectives in one solution design.
