Short answer
Yes. FirstNet Private Cloud runs in FirstNet data centres in Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town, and all FirstNet colocation sites are in South Africa.
In detail
Your solution design confirms the exact hosting and disaster recovery (DR) sites. It also sets out any data residency wording. Where each service keeps your data:
- Private Cloud: virtual machines, storage and immutable backups in FirstNet's Durban, Johannesburg or Cape Town data centres.
- Colocation: your own hardware in FirstNet's Durban data centre, or in Teraco sites in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban.
- Disaster recovery: a second FirstNet data centre in a different city, so DR can stay local too.
- Offsite server backups: the Veeam Data Cloud Vault Non-Core catalogue includes South African regions, where available.
- Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace backup: hosting regions vary by service. FirstNet confirms them during qualification.
Keeping data in the country supports designs aligned with POPIA. But compliance is shared. Your settings, how you classify data and your governance also decide the outcome. If you need specific residency wording in your contract, FirstNet reviews it before it commits in writing.
