Can FirstNet back up Google Workspace?

Data Protection & Ransomware Resilience · Answered by FirstNet Technology Services

Short answer

Yes. FirstNet Google Workspace Backup, powered by Druva, protects Gmail, Google Drive including Shared Drives, Calendar and Contacts, as configured. It gives you an independent copy that you can search and restore when data is deleted or encrypted, without running any backup infrastructure.

In detail

Key points:

  • Scope: Gmail, Drive and Shared Drives, Calendar and Contacts, as configured
  • Licensing: per protected user, rather than per gigabyte of storage
  • Restores: search and restore individual items, files or whole users
  • Operations: customer-run by default, with an optional FirstNet Managed Backup Service for monitoring, remediation, reporting and restore support
  • Mixed estates: if you use both Google Workspace and Microsoft 365, the subscriptions can be combined for one approach across both

Google keeps the Workspace service running, but under the shared-responsibility model, recovering deleted or encrypted data is your responsibility. Google Vault is designed for retention and eDiscovery inside the platform rather than as an independent restore copy, so regulated organisations often use both.

Hosting regions for SaaS backup are confirmed during qualification, as availability varies by service. For data on laptops that is not in Drive, add FirstNet Endpoint Backup.
