Short answer
Yes. FirstNet maintains offline or logically isolated backup copies, sometimes called air-gapped copies, to ensure a clean recovery path even in a worst-case attack.
In detail
How isolation fits into FirstNet's layered approach:
- Immutable backups: write-once copies that attackers cannot modify or delete during retention
- Isolated recovery points: copies kept apart from production for worst-case scenarios
- Offsite vault: Backup as a Service sends encrypted copies to a separate cloud vault over an encrypted TLS channel
- Isolated test environments: DR tests run in isolated recovery environments that do not affect live production
- Threat detection: backup anomaly alerts and malware scanning help catch problems early
The aim is to restore from a point you know is clean, contain the blast radius and bring systems back in a controlled order. Regular restore testing and documentation prove that the recovery path works before you need it.
FirstNet can run a resilience review to validate backup integrity, recovery times and threat detection coverage. Recovery objectives are defined by application tier during design, so the most critical systems get the strongest protection and the fastest recovery path.
