Is secure VPN access to the FirstNet DRaaS recovery site included?

Short answer

Not by default. Secure access to the FirstNet disaster recovery site, such as a hosted firewall VDOM, VPN termination and firewall rules, is scoped and included in your proposal when you need it, so it is never simply assumed.

In detail

Recovered systems are only useful if your users and administrators can reach them, and that depends on how your network is set up in the DR site and what your applications rely on.

What FirstNet confirms during discovery:

  • Whether users and administrators need secure access during a DR event
  • Whether a hosted firewall VDOM, a virtual firewall partition, will terminate the VPN tunnel
  • The network model in DR: the same IP ranges, or new ranges with network address translation
  • DNS and Active Directory dependencies, and the order in which systems start
  • Bandwidth, latency and any VPN or MPLS link to the DR site

Once agreed, secure access becomes part of your DR design and runbook. In a DR event, users and administrators then reach recovered systems through that agreed access model. Planning it before an incident is what makes immediate access realistic when you need it.
