We're on a Microsoft Enterprise Agreement. Can we switch to FirstNet CSP licensing?

Microsoft Licensing · Answered by FirstNet Technology Services

Short answer

Yes, at your EA renewal. Enterprise Agreements sit outside the Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) programme and FirstNet does not transact them, but FirstNet can advise you now and help you move to CSP licensing when your EA comes up for renewal.

In detail

How the two models differ:

  • Billing: an EA is an annual commitment, usually US dollar-denominated, with true-ups; FirstNet CSP is billed monthly in rand on one consolidated invoice
  • Terms: CSP uses Microsoft's New Commerce Experience, so you can mix monthly, annual and three-year terms across licences
  • Renewals: CSP terms are reviewed against actual usage, with renewals planned 90 days ahead
  • Advisory: FirstNet adds 90-day right-sizing, Azure consumption analytics and local escalation

Before renewal, share your current agreements, licence counts and renewal dates so FirstNet can map your estate. A Microsoft estate audit, typically 2 to 4 weeks, reviews your licence mix, identity baseline, security posture and Azure consumption, and produces a remediation backlog and right-sizing recommendation.

An EA can still suit very large enterprises with a global Microsoft team and a multi-year roadmap. FirstNet can help you weigh that against CSP well before the renewal window closes.
