Short answer
FirstNet designs cloud environments with redundant connectivity, failover and disaster recovery built in, so a single link failure does not have to take your systems offline. How much resilience you get depends on the connectivity and recovery options designed into your solution.
In detail
The building blocks FirstNet uses include:
- Carrier-neutral connectivity across multiple fibre providers, so links can be diversified
- Private Cloud access over site-to-site VPN, internet or private dedicated links
- Diverse fibre paths and multiple carriers at the FirstNet Durban data centre
- Disaster Recovery as a Service, with resilient network paths and secure access planned for crisis scenarios
- Geographic disaster recovery to a second FirstNet data centre in another city
Connectivity is captured during discovery and sizing, together with your recovery time and recovery point objectives (RTO and RPO). If users need to reach recovered systems through a VPN during an outage, secure access, such as a hosted firewall and VPN termination, is scoped explicitly rather than assumed. When something does fail, you log it with FirstNet's 24x7 Rapid Response service desk by email, phone or portal.
