Short answer
Disaster Recovery as a Service keeps a ready-to-run copy of your critical servers in a second site, so you can start them and keep operating if your primary site goes down. FirstNet DRaaS replicates your virtual machines into a FirstNet data centre in South Africa using Veeam Cloud Connect Replication, with compute, memory and replica storage reserved for you in advance.
In detail
What the service includes:
- VM-to-VM replication for VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V
- Reserved recovery capacity, so recovery is planned rather than best-effort
- Failover of single VMs or whole groups, and controlled failback
- Isolated recovery environments for safe DR testing
- An optional hosted firewall VDOM for VPN access into the DR site
You choose between Platform-Only DRaaS, where your team runs replication and failover from your own Veeam console, and Managed DR, where FirstNet adds replica monitoring, quarterly test restores, reporting and, depending on tier, runbooks and assisted failover.
Backup gets your data back; DRaaS keeps your systems running during an outage, and many organisations need both. Typical scenarios include primary site failure, extended power outages, ransomware recovery and facility-level disasters.
