What is the difference between FirstNet Platform-Only DRaaS and Managed DR?

Backup & Disaster Recovery as a Service · Answered by FirstNet Technology Services

Short answer

With FirstNet Platform-Only DRaaS, FirstNet provides the DR infrastructure, reserved capacity, replication tenancy and platform support, while your team runs replication and starts failover and failback. Managed DR is an optional add-on in which FirstNet also performs defined DR operational work.

In detail

What each model covers:

  • Platform-Only: you configure replication jobs from your own Veeam console, trigger failover and failback, plan DR tests and maintain your recovery order
  • Managed DR monitoring: FirstNet watches replica jobs, typically through Veeam ONE, and handles alerting and corrective action
  • Managed DR testing and reporting: quarterly test restores by default, DR status summaries and test reports
  • Managed DR, depending on tier: documented runbooks, assisted failover and failback during declared DR events, and service reviews

Managed DR requires Veeam Backup & Replication licensed and provided by FirstNet under the Veeam Cloud & Service Provider programme. Full failover tests are scoped separately, and secure access such as VPN and firewall policy is included only when explicitly scoped. Support hours and the exact managed scope depend on the service tier you contract.

Choose Platform-Only if your team will run tests and failovers itself; choose Managed DR if you want FirstNet to carry that operational load.
