Short answer
With self-managed FirstNet BaaS, your IT team runs the backups day to day using the Veeam tools provided, while FirstNet manages the cloud repository and infrastructure. With fully managed BaaS, FirstNet also acts as your backup operations team.
In detail
How responsibilities split:
- Job configuration: you configure jobs with initial guidance, or FirstNet designs and sets up all jobs, schedules and retention
- Monitoring: you watch jobs and storage, or FirstNet proactively monitors jobs and vault capacity
- Failures: you troubleshoot and re-run jobs, or FirstNet remediates failures within the contracted scope
- Restores: you perform them, or FirstNet assists with or performs restores and runs periodic test restores
- Reporting: you use Veeam ONE dashboards, or FirstNet delivers regular backup health, capacity and compliance reports
In both models FirstNet runs and supports the cloud backup infrastructure. Managed operations suit organisations without in-house backup expertise, or teams that want to focus on other work. If you keep your own Veeam licences under Track 2, you can still add the managed service for some or all of your backups. Response times and the exact managed scope are set by the service tier in your contract.
