Where are FirstNet's data centres located?

Cloud · Answered by FirstNet Technology Services

Short answer

FirstNet hosts Private Cloud workloads in its data centres in Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town. For colocation, FirstNet owns and operates its own data centre in Durban and holds space in Teraco partner facilities in Isando (Johannesburg), Cape Town (CT1 and CT2) and Riverhorse (Durban).

In detail

How the sites are used:

  • Private Cloud: virtual data centres in Durban, Johannesburg or Cape Town, with optional geographic disaster recovery to a second FirstNet data centre
  • FirstNet Durban: a purpose-built Tier III-standard facility, certified to ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO 9001, suited to a KwaZulu-Natal presence or a Durban DR site
  • Teraco Isando, CT1, CT2 and Riverhorse: suited to metro choice, carrier density and multi-city DR, with peering through NAPAfrica at Teraco Isando

Having three metros means you can keep data in South Africa and still place disaster recovery in a different region. At Teraco sites, Teraco operates the facility and FirstNet provides your service layer, including rack allocation, connectivity, access coordination and a single support contact.

Your hosting location, and your disaster recovery location if you need one, is confirmed in your solution design.
