Will we be billed in rand for Microsoft licences through FirstNet?

Microsoft Licensing · Answered by FirstNet Technology Services

Short answer

Yes. Through FirstNet's Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) agreement you receive a single consolidated monthly invoice in rand (ZAR) for every Microsoft licence in scope, including Microsoft 365, Azure, Dynamics 365 and security add-ons, with FirstNet handling the US dollar conversion.

In detail

What this means for your finance team:

  • One rand-denominated invoice instead of several Microsoft contracts, often billed in US dollars
  • FirstNet absorbs the USD-to-ZAR translation mechanics under the CSP agreement
  • One renewal cadence, with renewals planned 90 days ahead
  • Azure billed on actual consumption, with a monthly consumption summary
  • Licence right-sizing at onboarding and every 90 days, so you pay for what users need

Under Microsoft's New Commerce Experience you can mix terms on the same invoice, for example annual licences for permanent staff and monthly licences for contractors. Three-year terms lock the unit price for stable estates.

Unit pricing is the same as buying direct; the difference is consolidation and the service around the licences. FirstNet's customer success manager and quarterly business reviews give finance and IT a single point of contact for licence questions, and the FirstNet service desk escalates technical issues into Microsoft.
