Short answer
FirstNet business fibre is uncontended on local traffic, carries last-mile uptime targets with a service-credit schedule, and includes a FirstNet-managed router, PRTG monitoring and 24x7 NOC support. Consumer-grade services generally lack the SLAs, real-time monitoring and dedicated support a business depends on.
In detail
What FirstNet business fibre includes:
- Symmetric or asymmetric, uncapped service
- Uncontended on local (on-net) traffic, with international contention capped at 1:4 and only during undersea cable failures
- Availability targets up to 99.5% on premium networks and 99% on standard
- Up to two static public IPs by default, useful for VPN or remote access
- A FirstNet-managed router monitored through PRTG
- Dedicated, uncontended variants for mission-critical sites
The bigger difference is accountability. FirstNet designs fibre around what each site runs, whether that is Microsoft 365, voice, CCTV, ERP or point-of-sale, coordinates the underlying fibre provider and drives escalations through to resolution. It can also add a diverse backup on LTE/5G, microwave or LEO satellite so a fibre cut does not take the site offline. Note that standard business fibre is still best-effort beyond FirstNet's core network; committed bandwidth comes with Dedicated Internet Access.
