Short answer
FirstNet business fibre is uncapped, and is available as either symmetric (equal upload and download) or asymmetric, depending on the network and product chosen. It is contended (best-effort) by default, but uncontended on local on-net traffic.
In detail
The terms explained:
- Uncapped: no monthly data cap on the service.
- Symmetric: upload matches download, which suits video calls, cloud backups and hosted services; asymmetric favours download.
- Contended: capacity beyond FirstNet's core is shared, so throughput can vary with wider internet conditions.
- On-net: local traffic carried on FirstNet's network, which is uncontended on business fibre.
International contention is capped at 1:4, and applies only during undersea cable failures. For mission-critical sites a dedicated, uncontended fibre option can be designed case by case, and premium fibre networks support higher availability targets (up to 99.5%) than standard networks (99%).
If you need symmetric, committed bandwidth with 1:1 contention on both local and international traffic, Dedicated Internet Access is the service built for that. FirstNet confirms which fibre networks and profiles are available at your address during feasibility.
