Short answer
FirstNet's security services each cover a different part of the attack surface, so most organisations combine several. Every layer runs as a managed service under one FirstNet contract, with one support desk.
In detail
The layers are:
- Network edge: Firewall as a Service on Fortinet or Sophos, on your site or hosted by FirstNet, with FortiManager and FortiAnalyzer for Fortinet estates
- Inbound email: Mimecast filters phishing, malware and impersonation before delivery
- Outbound email: SendMarc enforces DMARC so nobody can spoof your domain
- Endpoint and SOC: Sophos endpoint protection with Sophos MDR detects threats around the clock
- Incident response: FirstNet's team remediates when Sophos MDR raises an alert
- Secure access: Netskope or Cloudflare Zero Trust secures web, SaaS and private app access and replaces legacy VPN
- Public apps: Cloudflare WAF, DDoS and bot protection at the edge
The layers reinforce each other. A Sophos firewall and Sophos endpoints share health status through Synchronized Security, and FortiManager with FortiAnalyzer gives a change-and-evidence trail for audits.
Most customers start with the layer that matches their most urgent risk, then add the others over time.
