Short answer
Once your brand profile is verified through FirstNet, it is locked. Community edits and impersonators cannot change the name, logo or category shown on the call screen, and only authorised changes made through FirstNet are accepted.
In detail
How brand protection works:
- Verification: FirstNet checks proof of number ownership and business registration before the profile goes live.
- Green badge: calls from your verified numbers carry the badge, which spoofed or community-suggested entries do not.
- Locked identity: community edits cannot alter the profile.
- Controlled changes: new numbers, branding updates and call-reason changes go through FirstNet's change control.
This makes it harder for fraudsters to pass themselves off as your brand, because genuine calls carry a verified name and badge that fake ones lack. It is especially relevant for teams making fraud verification, payment or collections calls.
Verification protects the calls you make from your authorised numbers. It cannot stop criminals calling your customers from other numbers, so pair it with clear customer communication, such as telling customers to look for your verified badge on genuine calls. Verified Message ID extends the same verified identity to SMS, including one-time PINs and payment alerts.
