What are FirstNet business voice minutes and what are they used for?

Business Voice Minutes · Answered by FirstNet Technology Services

Short answer

Business voice minutes are the call time your business uses to make calls from a VoIP platform, SIP trunk or PBX to the public phone network. FirstNet sells them prepaid or postpaid and carries the calls over its own ICASA-licensed voice network.

In detail

Where the minutes are used:

  • SIP trunks connected to an on-premises or cloud-hosted PBX.
  • Hosted PBX and cloud phone systems, including FirstNet Managed Cloud PBX.
  • Contact centres and BPOs handling large inbound and outbound volumes.
  • Resellers and IT service providers building their own VoIP, PBX or UCaaS offering.
  • International calling, with destination-specific routing and pricing.

On FirstNet SIP Trunks, minutes come on a voice plan: Voice Bundles with a fixed number of inclusive minutes, or Voice Rate Options with per-minute rates and a custom rate sheet on request. Billing is per second, so you pay for the time actually used rather than rounded-up minutes.

Calls route to Telkom, Vodacom, MTN, Cell C and other licensees through direct interconnects. Fraud controls, including anomaly detection, destination blocking and spending controls, help protect you against unexpected call charges.
