Short answer
Legal hold preserves specific call recordings beyond their normal retention period, typically for litigation, disputes or regulatory inquiries. In FirstNet Compliance Recording, held recordings are kept past their scheduled deletion, and when the hold is released they are disposed of through logged, defensible deletion.
In detail
How it works:
- Normal retention policies delete recordings when their period ends.
- A hold on specific recordings suspends that deletion for as long as the matter is open.
- Access to held recordings follows role-based permissions with MFA, and every action is captured in the audit log.
- Recordings can be shared with legal counsel, auditors or regulators through controlled, logged sharing.
- When the hold is lifted, deletion follows policy and is logged, so you can show what was removed and when.
Legal hold is included from the Core Recording tier upwards. During design, FirstNet agrees who may place and release holds, for example Compliance, Legal or IT, and legal-hold actions go through change control. With the optional Managed Compliance Service, FirstNet administers legal hold on your behalf.
Without legal hold, a recording that has reached the end of its retention period could be deleted while a dispute is still running.
