Who owns the call recordings stored in FirstNet Compliance Recording?

Compliant Call Recording & Analytics · Answered by FirstNet Technology Services

Short answer

You do. Your organisation owns its recordings, and an exit process with secure deprovisioning and compliant data handover is available, as defined in your contract.

In detail

What ownership means in practice:

  • Recordings are kept in tamper-proof storage under the retention, access and legal-hold policies you set.
  • Your admins, or FirstNet through the optional Managed Compliance Service, control who can search and retrieve them.
  • Audit logs keep a chain of custody for every access and action.
  • API access supports your own automation, archive checks and third-party analytics.
  • On exit, recordings can be handed over compliantly and the service securely deprovisioned, in line with your contract.

FirstNet delivers the service on the CallCabinet and Smarsh platforms and is the single accountable provider for onboarding, support and escalation. Before go-live you sign a Data-Processing Addendum and confirm your retention policy in writing, which sets out how recordings are processed on your behalf.

The standard term is 12 months, and notice periods, renewal and handover obligations are defined in your contracted terms. Recordings migrated from an older recorder come across with chain of custody preserved, so their history stays intact.
