Short answer
FirstNet Private Cloud backup retention is sized to your requirement and is typically 7, 14 or 30 days. Backups are written to immutable storage, so recovery points cannot be altered or deleted until the retention period ends, which protects against ransomware and accidental or malicious deletion.
In detail
Choosing a retention period:
- 7 days: covers recent mistakes and failures with the smallest storage footprint
- 14 days: more time to notice problems, such as corruption discovered after a week
- 30 days: a longer window for incidents that go unnoticed for a while
- Longer or offsite retention: scoped separately, for example through FirstNet Backup as a Service with GFS retention
Many customers start with a shorter period and extend it as compliance or recoverability requirements tighten. Because backup storage is consumed per GB, longer retention increases the storage you use, so the trade-off between recovery window and cost is worth discussing in discovery.
Retention, immutability and any compliance-driven recoverability requirement are captured in the discovery and sizing workshop and documented in the solution design. If you need guaranteed restore times, those are scoped separately rather than assumed.
