Short answer
No. Teraco runs its own data centres, and FirstNet holds colocation space inside them. FirstNet adds the service layer on top: racks, connectivity, access arranged with Teraco's on-site teams, and one support contact.
In detail
FirstNet's Teraco space is at Isando (Johannesburg), Cape Town (CT1 and CT2) and Riverhorse (Durban). Who does what at these sites:
- Teraco: runs the building, site power and cooling, base physical security and campus rules.
- FirstNet: commercials and contracts, rack allocation in its space and power distribution in your racks. It also handles connectivity design and provisioning, access requests, remote hands coordination and support.
- You: your own hardware, operating systems and apps, and your authorised access contacts.
The site FirstNet does own is its Durban data centre in Durban. FirstNet designs, owns and runs this purpose-built Tier III-standard site. It is certified to ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO 9001.
Teraco sites suit clients who need Johannesburg or Cape Town, or dense carrier and cloud ecosystems. They also suit disaster recovery (DR) across more than one city. Teraco Isando also gives access to the NAPAfrica internet exchange and cloud on-ramps. At any site you choose, FirstNet stays your one accountable provider. You do not have to manage several vendors.
