Short answer
The 3-2-1 rule calls for an offsite copy of your backups. If you already run Veeam on-premises, you can add FirstNet's Cloud Connect repository and create a backup copy job that sends each nightly backup to a FirstNet cloud vault, giving you a geographically separate copy without new hardware or separate backup software.
In detail
In brief, the rule says to keep three copies of your data, on two different types of storage, with one copy offsite. FirstNet Backup as a Service provides that offsite copy.
How it works:
- Your local Veeam backups keep running as normal
- A backup copy job sends data over an encrypted TLS channel through Veeam Cloud Connect
- The copy lands in the Veeam Data Cloud Vault, encrypted and optionally immutable
- GFS retention can keep weekly, monthly and yearly restore points
- If a disaster affects both your primary site and your local backups, you restore from the cloud copy
You can keep your own Veeam licences (Track 2) or use FirstNet-supplied licensing (Track 1). For residency, choose a Non-Core vault region, which can include South Africa, subject to availability. If you also want FirstNet to run the offsite copies, add the managed service.
