Short answer
The service is designed so you do not have to plan around storage caps or capacity calculations. FirstNet Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace Backup are licensed per protected user, and Endpoint Backup per protected device, rather than per gigabyte of backup storage.
In detail
What this means in practice:
- No storage calculators or capacity planning for backup data
- Costs scale with the number of users or devices you protect
- No backup servers or storage to buy, install or maintain
- Retention requirements and any fair-use conditions are confirmed when the service is scoped
- Unusual retention needs, such as legal hold, are reviewed separately
The main thing to decide up front is retention: how long you need to keep backup data for audit, legal or business reasons. That, together with your top restore scenario and any residency constraints, is confirmed before the service is quoted.
This model differs from server backup. FirstNet Backup as a Service for virtual machines and physical servers uses per-workload Veeam licensing plus storage in your chosen Foundation or Advanced vault, so capacity is planned as part of that design.
