What storage tiers does FirstNet Private Cloud offer?

Private Cloud Hosting & Management · Answered by FirstNet Technology Services

Short answer

FirstNet Private Cloud offers three storage tiers on Infinidat enterprise arrays: Tier 1 SSD for I/O-intensive workloads, Tier 2 Standard for general server workloads and Tier 3 Archive for data you rarely access.

In detail

How to use each tier:

  • Tier 1 (SSD): flash storage for busy databases and latency-sensitive systems
  • Tier 2 (Standard): balanced performance for general server workloads, such as line-of-business applications and file and print servers
  • Tier 3 (Archive): low-cost storage for infrequently accessed data

Each virtual machine can use the mix that suits it, and latency-sensitive workloads can move up to Tier 1 as your database estate grows. Storage is consumed per GB by tier, so placing data on the right tier keeps costs aligned with performance needs.

The Infinidat arrays include intelligent caching and built-in replication. Storage sizing by tier is captured in the discovery and sizing workshop, along with your VM list, vCPU, RAM and backup retention, and any specific performance commitments belong in the solution design.

Backups are separate from primary storage: Veeam backup jobs write to immutable backup storage, with retention typically 7, 14 or 30 days.
