Where are FirstNet Private Cloud workloads hosted?

Private Cloud Hosting & Management · Answered by FirstNet Technology Services

Short answer

FirstNet Private Cloud workloads are hosted in FirstNet data centres in Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town. Your hosting location, and your disaster recovery location if you need one, is confirmed in the solution design.

In detail

What the local footprint gives you:

  • Data residency: workloads stay in South Africa, supporting POPIA-aligned designs
  • Latency: servers sit close to South African users and offices
  • Geographic DR: optional replication to a second FirstNet data centre in a different city
  • Connectivity: site-to-site VPN, internet and private dedicated links, plus private peering to AWS, Azure and Google Cloud
  • Credentials: ISO 27001 and ISO 9001 certified management systems, ICASA licensing and BBBEE Level 1 status

Choosing a primary site usually comes down to where your users are and where your other systems run. A common pattern is production in one city with geographic DR in another, so a regional outage does not affect both copies.

If your contracts require specific residency wording, FirstNet reviews it before committing in writing. Compliance is shared: the platform is covered by FirstNet's certified management systems, while your configuration, data classification and governance shape the outcome. If you also have hardware to keep, FirstNet colocation in Durban or Teraco sites can sit alongside Private Cloud.
