Who manages the operating system and applications on FirstNet Private Cloud?

Private Cloud Hosting & Management · Answered by FirstNet Technology Services

Short answer

In the Unmanaged model, FirstNet runs the platform and you manage the operating system, applications and data in your virtual machines. Add FirstNet Server Management and FirstNet handles OS-level monitoring, patching and support in business hours or 24x7. Applications stay with you unless separately scoped.

In detail

How responsibilities split:

  • Always FirstNet: data centre, hardware, virtualisation, core networking and storage
  • Unmanaged (default): you run the OS, applications and data inside your VMs
  • Server Management 8x5 (optional): FirstNet monitors, patches and supports the OS during business hours, per VM
  • Server Management 24x7 (optional): the same OS-level support around the clock
  • Out of scope unless contracted: application management and database administration

Because Server Management is chosen per VM, you can apply it where it matters most, for example on critical production servers. Your preference is captured in the discovery and sizing workshop, together with your VM list, storage tiers, connectivity and recovery objectives.

Whichever model you choose, support runs through FirstNet's 24x7 Rapid Response service desk, and the recommended baseline still includes a virtual firewall and Veeam backups to immutable storage. If you want application-level support too, it can be scoped as a separate managed service.
