Who runs FirstNet Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace backups day to day?

Data Protection & Ransomware Resilience · Answered by FirstNet Technology Services

Short answer

By default, your team does. FirstNet Cloud Backup Services are customer-run unless you add the optional Managed Backup Service, in which case FirstNet takes care of monitoring, failed-backup fixes, reporting and restore support.

In detail

What each model involves:

  • Customer-run: your team monitors jobs, investigates failures, performs restores and produces any reporting
  • FirstNet Managed Backup Service: FirstNet handles implementation, monitoring, remediation, reporting and restore support for the subscriptions you have
  • Either way: the platform is cloud-native, so there are no backup servers or storage for anyone to maintain

The managed service does not add workloads. It operates what you have bought and configured, whether that is Microsoft 365, Google Workspace or endpoint backup.

A quick test helps you decide. Do you test restores at least quarterly? Is there a named owner for monitoring and failed-backup remediation, including after hours? Can you produce reporting and audit evidence on request without scrambling? If the answer to any of these is no or not sure, the Managed Backup Service is usually worth adding.

The same choice exists for server backups: FirstNet Backup as a Service can be self-managed or fully managed, with FirstNet running the cloud infrastructure in both cases.
