Short answer
Yes. Limits can be applied to guest bandwidth and session length. The exact method depends on your Wi-Fi and network policy controls, which FirstNet confirms during discovery.
In detail
Because the service is a hardware-agnostic overlay on your existing Wi-Fi, some controls are enforced by your wireless controller or network policy rather than by the portal itself. That is why discovery comes first:
- FirstNet reviews your Wi-Fi controller settings and guest SSID or VLAN set-up.
- The limiting methods available on your equipment are confirmed.
- Limits are configured alongside the login options and captive portal.
- Later changes run through FirstNet's change control.
Limits help protect the site's internet link, so guest use does not crowd out point-of-sale, voice or business applications. Guests stay on a dedicated SSID or VLAN, separate from business systems, and the optional Purple Shield add-on adds guest content filtering.
If your existing equipment cannot apply the limits you need, upgrades such as new access points or LAN changes can be scoped separately. The pilot at one to four sites, which comes before wider rollout, is a practical point to confirm that limits behave as intended.
