Short answer
Yes. FirstNet supplies broadband, Dedicated Internet Access (DIA), LTE/5G, licensed microwave and LEO satellite underlays, so the circuits and the SD-WAN overlay sit under one accountable SLA.
In detail
SD-WAN is an overlay, so it performs best on well-designed links. FirstNet provides carrier-agnostic underlays, typically two diverse links per site:
- Broadband and DIA: business fibre or dedicated internet as the primary underlay
- LTE/5G and microwave: wireless underlays that add path diversity alongside fibre
- LEO satellite: an independent path for remote or highly critical sites
- Hybrid MPLS: MPLS and internet links side by side for a phased migration
Supplying both layers closes a common gap: when the overlay and the circuits come from different providers, a performance problem can bounce between them. With FirstNet, one team owns the outcome, from underlay feasibility and link quality at each site through to in-life management.
Because FirstNet's reach spans every major fibre and mobile network operator in South Africa, the two links at a site can sit on different carriers and media. Each underlay is validated during feasibility before the design is approved.
