Short answer
It depends on what matters most: application-aware SD-WAN steers each traffic flow across your links using policy, which suits multi-site organisations wanting central control, QoS and security policy. Peplink SpeedFusion bonds links at packet level, so a single live call or RDP session can survive a link cut without dropping.
In detail
How to choose:
- SD-WAN: policy-driven control across many sites, application-aware steering, QoS and integrated security, including phased migration away from MPLS.
- Peplink bonding: when live sessions such as voice, video or RDP must not drop, because sub-second hot failover keeps active TCP and UDP sessions running.
- Peplink for rugged and mobile use: vehicles, broadcast, mining and pop-up sites, using MAX series hardware and bonded cellular modems.
- Peplink for noisy links: Forward Error Correction and WAN Smoothing protect real-time traffic.
Both need at least two links per site, and FirstNet can supply the underlays for either: fibre, DIA, LTE/5G, microwave and LEO satellite. Peplink is itself an SD-WAN edge; the difference is that most SD-WAN keeps each session on one link, while SpeedFusion splits a single flow across links. FirstNet can recommend the right approach after a site survey.
