We already have guest Wi-Fi. Why move to FirstNet Managed Guest Wi-Fi?

Managed Guest Wi-Fi · Answered by FirstNet Technology Services

Short answer

A managed service adds an operating model on top of your existing Wi-Fi rather than replacing it. FirstNet handles portal changes, consent governance and multi-site consistency, so branding and terms stay aligned across all venues and support runs through one provider.

In detail

What changes when it is managed:

  • Consistency: portals per brand or venue from a standard template, with approved variations and change control.
  • Governance: consent-based login aligned to POPIA and GDPR, with you as data controller and FirstNet helping set up wording and retention correctly.
  • Security: guest access on a dedicated SSID or VLAN, separate from business systems, with optional Purple Shield content filtering.
  • Insight: a path to visitor analytics (Capture) and opt-in engagement (Engage) when the business is ready.
  • Support: one provider for set-up, changes and ongoing support.

It works with your existing access points as a hardware-agnostic overlay, so there is no forced equipment swap. Rollout is phased: discovery, a pilot at one to four sites, then wider rollout by brand or region readiness.

If you already provide free Wi-Fi, a branded login turns it into a source of consented customer insight: visit patterns, dwell time and, with the optional Purple Surveys add-on, real-time guest feedback.
